FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A little background. Skibbereen & District Car Club always run an autotest in July, and this year, Cousin Brian was the COC, and was really in charge as well. As a consequence, both myself & Big T were "encouraged" to compete in the event.
Car preparation was long and complex, especially for Red Mist. The boot spoiler was screwed onto the roof with great big long screws, the car was washed (ya, I'm shocked as well) and that's it. Typicall Red Mist car preparation! Sunday morning we were left with a slight problem of transportation, i.e. how to get the car down to Skibbereen. The bold decision was taken to drive it down. After all, there was still a fraction of NCT left on the car.
So, to the test trial... I would like to say that we put up a spirited performance, taking the competition to the regular autotesters, but in reality, we were crap! We maxed more tests that we got right, and were so slow that you needed a calendar to time us, not a stop-watch.
To top it all, I managed to crash the thing, twice! The first time, I backed into a shipping container, narrowly missing breaking the "precious" back lights (as an aside, Big T was like Smeagol from Lord of the Rings with them back lights - "My Precious Back Lights - Worth a fortune") In order to protect the containers, a row a pallets were placed in front of the containers by the organisers. Unfortunately, they left a gap, and in typical Camper fashion, I found the gap, and did a proper job on the back lens......... Big T was ragin' and muttering about "wait until I get my hands on the Mark 2" and stuff like that.
Oh, by the way, we were well beaten by Ice-Cream, who was driving Fergus's Corsa, with it's enhanced "thru-cab air flow" system, courtesy of Fergus breaking the back window as a result of a "minor" indiscretion......
Some Pics for your entertainment. Have a look at what's left of Fergus's back window!
