FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fastnet Rally

A mixed bag all in all

To start off, there's going to be no discussion on the prize-giving for two reasons. One, what happens on an alcohol fuelled night, stays on an alcohol fuelled night and I was a wuss and left early (midnight!). As for the piss-up, judging by the heads the following day, a good night after the mixed day was had.

As for the actual rally, it was a mixed bag. Big T finished, after trying to make some cheap calls; Cousin Brian had a CV joint let go, putting him out while Sparkie & The Bun finished. Big T had a major (ie pants filling) moment on stage 3, when the yoke went sideways and hit a telegraph pole with the front corner. As for the damage, it's not too bad (we needed a hammer to open the bonnet in service!). Sparkie finished 54th overall, The Bun was 69th, Bradfield was 74th and Big T was 80th. Another madman, Vinnie of "chowder" fame, was 71st overall, and "discovered" half way through the rally that the brakes were stuck half on........ Pockets, unfortunately, joined the retirements list after a slight off, and needs a better excuse for the next time.

Camper & Ice-Cream were doing the remote refuelling for the gang. Ice-cream, the cute hoor, started selling the petrol and thus, is to be christened TOPAZ from now on......

As for the rest, Macca, Steak, Joe and The Councillor were out marshalling on Mol (aka Pippi's) stage and as usual, when any of us run a stage, it went swimmingly well. There are also rumours that Dell was doing flying finish, while the better half was ballast for Ger Gowan in the "Double 0" car.

So, for the thanks. Mol wants to thank all those who marshalled on the stage and generally helped out. Big T wants to thank R&R Tyres, Ballincolling; McCarthy Plant & Agri sales, Carrigtwohill and Cousin Brian. Goffy, meanwhile, wants to thank Big T for not hitting his side of the car off the telegraph pole. Camper & Topaz wants to thank The Bun for not running them down in remote refuelling and the whole lot want to thank Ger Hayes and the rest of the Skibb gang for a massive weekend.

Oh, no pics as I was busy for once, holding a Jerry Can (and trying to figure out how to open it!)
